The Serie A club have been presented with the opportunity to sign Paraguay’s breakout World Cup star, but financial constraints mean several transfers would need to happen first.
Orlando Gill’s unforgettable World Cup performances have quickly attracted attention in Europe.
According to reports in Italy, the Paraguay goalkeeper has been offered to Lazio following his heroic displays at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, where he became one of the tournament’s breakout stars after leading Paraguay past Germany in the Round of 32.
The proposal reportedly arrived before Gill’s penalty shootout heroics, but his reputation has only grown since then.
The 26-year-old goalkeeper, who currently plays for Argentine club San Lorenzo, produced one of the most memorable performances of the tournament by saving penalties from Kai Havertz and Nick Woltemade as Paraguay stunned four-time world champions Germany.
His inspiring personal story has also resonated with football fans around the world.
Several years ago, Gill revealed he was forced to sell clothes, shoes and even his Paraguay Under-20 jersey to help pay medical expenses for his seriously ill son. His journey from financial hardship to World Cup hero has become one of the defining stories of the tournament.
Standing 6-foot-6 (199 cm), Gill is believed to have a €7 million release clause in his contract with San Lorenzo.
For Lazio, however, activating that clause is not currently a straightforward option.
The Biancocelesti remain restricted by financial regulations and continue to operate under a “sell before you buy” strategy during this transfer window.
At the moment, Lazio’s plan is unchanged.
The club expects Ivan Provedel to complete a move to Inter, while Christos Mandas, who returns after his loan spell at Bournemouth, is currently expected to become the club’s first-choice goalkeeper. Stefano Turati Motta is projected to serve as the backup.
For Gill to become a realistic target, Lazio would likely need both Provedel and Mandas to leave this summer.
While Fiorentina have previously shown interest in Mandas, no formal negotiations have materialized, and Lazio continue to value the Greek goalkeeper at approximately €18 million.
Meanwhile, talks between Lazio and Inter over Provedel are still ongoing.
Inter have reportedly reached personal terms with the 32-year-old goalkeeper but have yet to satisfy Lazio president Claudio Lotito’s asking price of €4–5 million. An initial offer worth around €3 million was rejected.
Interestingly, Gill has also been offered to Inter, adding another layer to the goalkeeper market this summer.
Lazio must also address depth at the position after reserve goalkeeper Alessandro Furlanetto underwent successful surgery to reconstruct the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee. The procedure is expected to sideline him for approximately six months.
For now, Gill remains an intriguing opportunity rather than an immediate target.
But after announcing himself on football’s biggest stage, the Paraguayan goalkeeper has firmly entered the conversation as one of the most sought-after emerging names of the summer transfer window.
