Lazio Officially Sign Alfonso Pedraza on Free Transfer

The experienced Spanish left-back joins from Villarreal on a free deal and becomes Gennaro Gattuso’s first signing ahead of the new Serie A season.

Lazio have officially completed the signing of Spanish defender Alfonso Pedraza, giving new head coach Gennaro Gattuso his first addition of the summer transfer window.

The Biancocelesti confirmed the move through an official club statement, announcing that Pedraza has joined as a free agent following the expiration of his contract with Villarreal.

The 30-year-old has signed a contract that will keep him in Rome through June 30, 2029, and will immediately join Gattuso’s squad for the start of preseason training.

“Lazio announce the signing of Alfonso Pedraza Sag,” the club said in its official statement. “The left-sided defender has signed a three-year contract and will immediately be available to coach Gattuso for the beginning of training camp.”

Pedraza arrives in Italy after establishing himself as one of La Liga’s most reliable full-backs.

During his career in Spain, he represented Lugo, Real Betis, Deportivo Alavés and Villarreal, where he became a key figure over several seasons.

Across all competitions, Pedraza made 235 appearances for Villarreal, scoring 13 goals while contributing both defensively and offensively from the left flank.

His most notable achievements came with the Yellow Submarine, helping the club win the 2020-21 UEFA Europa League before playing a significant role in Villarreal’s memorable run to the UEFA Champions League semifinals the following season.

Known for his pace, versatility and ability to operate as either a traditional left-back or an attacking wing-back, Pedraza adds valuable experience and European pedigree to Lazio’s squad.

With the first signing now completed, Lazio can continue building the squad around Gattuso as preparations begin for the 2026-27 campaign.
