Spain played with intensity, control and quality, beating Austria 3-0 behind two goals from Mikel Oyarzabal and a complete team performance from Luis de la Fuente’s side.
Spain is moving on, and it is doing it with style.
La Roja defeated Austria 3-0 in the Round of 32 of the FIFA World Cup, delivering one of its most convincing performances of the tournament. Mikel Oyarzabal scored twice, Pedro Porro added the second, and Marc Cucurella produced two assists in a match Spain controlled with tempo, technical quality and attacking rhythm.
Austria started with energy and tried to match Spain’s intensity in the opening minutes. Ralf Rangnick’s team pressed, competed and looked capable of making the match uncomfortable. But as the first half progressed, Spain’s quality began to take over.
Luis de la Fuente’s side moved the ball quickly, stretched Austria across the field and found space through the wide areas. Lamine Yamal brought danger from the right, Álex Baena added creativity between the lines, and Cucurella became a constant source of attacking support from the left.
The breakthrough arrived in the 36th minute. Cucurella delivered a low cross into the box, and Oyarzabal finished first time into the corner. It was a clean, sharp goal from a striker who once again showed his intelligence inside the penalty area.
Spain nearly doubled the lead before halftime. Baena struck the crossbar with a free kick, and moments later Yamal found himself in front of Alexander Schlager but could not beat the Austrian goalkeeper. Austria survived until the break, but the direction of the match was already clear.
Rangnick tried to change the game after the hour mark, introducing Marko Arnautović and Sasa Kalajdzic to give Austria more size and presence in attack. But before Austria could really shift the momentum, Spain struck again.
In the 66th minute, Baena served Pedro Porro in the middle of the box, and the fullback headed home to make it 2-0. The goal effectively ended Austria’s hopes and confirmed Spain’s superiority.
The final blow came in the 89th minute. Cucurella delivered another brilliant assist, and Oyarzabal, once again in front of goal, showed no hesitation. His second goal sealed the 3-0 win and sent Spain into the last 16 with confidence.
This was not just a win for Spain. It was a statement. De la Fuente’s team looked balanced, aggressive and mature. Rodri gave the midfield structure, Pedri and Olmo helped control possession, Cucurella dominated his flank, and Oyarzabal gave the attack the finishing touch.
Austria exits after a difficult night. Rangnick’s side competed early but could not sustain Spain’s rhythm or create enough danger to truly threaten Unai Simón.
Spain now waits for the winner of Portugal vs Croatia in the next round. Based on this performance, La Roja will arrive with belief, momentum and a clear sense that its World Cup is getting stronger at exactly the right time.
