Argentine striker Mateo Pellegrino strikes twice to earn Parma their first league victory of the season, while Torino slump to a fourth defeat.
Parma finally claimed their first Serie A win of the season, defeating Torino 2-1 at the Stadio Ennio Tardini thanks to a superb performance from Mateo Pellegrino. The Argentine forward scored in each half, including a decisive header late in the game, to lift his side off the bottom of the table and build on their recent Coppa Italia success.
The home side opened the scoring in the 36th minute after a lengthy VAR review awarded a penalty for a handball by Ismajli. Pellegrino stepped up and converted from the spot, sending Israel the wrong way to give Parma the lead.
Torino came out fighting after the break and equalized just five minutes into the second half through a moment of individual brilliance from Cyril Ngonge. The Belgian winger unleashed a stunning strike from outside the box, leaving goalkeeper Suzuki with no chance.
With the match hanging in the balance, Parma pushed forward and were rewarded in the 72nd minute. A perfect cross from Valeri found Pellegrino, who powered a header past Israel to complete his brace and seal a crucial three points for the Ducali.
The defeat piles pressure on Torino boss Marco Baroni, whose team has now lost four of their opening five league matches, leaving their supporters frustrated and the club in early-season crisis.
