Fiorentina withstand heavy pressure before snatching a crucial victory in the relegation battle on Matchday 31.
Fiorentina secured a massive 1-0 away win over Hellas Verona, relying on a standout performance from David De Gea and a late goal from Nicolò Fagioli to claim three precious points in their fight for survival.
The Viola started brightly at the Bentegodi and nearly took an early lead when Fagioli struck the crossbar inside the opening minutes. However, as the match progressed, Verona took control and created a flurry of chances.
The home side pushed relentlessly in the first half, with Antoine Bernede, Frese, Orban, and Oyegoke all going close. Time and again, though, De Gea came to Fiorentina’s rescue with a series of outstanding saves that kept the score level.
The second half followed a similar pattern, with Verona dominating possession and territory while Fiorentina focused on defending deep and looking for counterattacking opportunities.
Despite tactical adjustments and increased attacking presence from Verona, the breakthrough came at the other end. In the 82nd minute, Fagioli met a precise assist from Harrison inside the box and fired a first-time shot into the corner, beating Montipò and silencing the home crowd.
Verona nearly deserved more for their efforts but were left frustrated by missed chances and De Gea’s brilliance, while Fiorentina climbed above their direct rivals in the standings with a result that could prove decisive.
