The German giants overwhelm Atalanta in Bergamo as Olise, Gnabry and Jackson headline a devastating Champions League performance.
Atalanta BC suffered a heavy 6-1 defeat at home against FC Bayern Munich in the first leg of their knockout clash in the UEFA Champions League.
Vincent Kompany’s Bayern delivered a ruthless attacking display in Bergamo, leaving the Italian side with a near-impossible task ahead of the return leg in Munich.
Bayern Strike Early
Atalanta began the match with attacking ambition, deploying a two-striker partnership featuring Gianluca Scamacca and Nikola Krstović. The plan quickly unraveled.
In the 12th minute, Bayern took the lead from a corner. Josip Stanišić slipped free inside the box and finished calmly after losing his marker.
From that moment, the match turned into a Bayern exhibition.
Michael Olise doubled the lead with a precise left-footed strike into the corner after testing Marco Carnesecchi twice earlier. Only three minutes later, Serge Gnabry burst into the box at pace and finished clinically to make it 3-0.
The visitors nearly added another before halftime when Gnabry struck the crossbar.
Relentless Second Half
Atalanta attempted tactical adjustments after the break, switching back to a back three and introducing Berat Djimsiti. The changes made little difference.
Within minutes, Bayern struck again. Nicolas Jackson finished a swift attacking move with a powerful diagonal shot for the fourth goal.
Olise then delivered his second spectacular finish of the night, further highlighting his outstanding performance. Jamal Musiala soon followed with a simple tap-in after another flowing Bayern move.
The German side showed no signs of slowing down, dominating possession and constantly stretching Atalanta’s defense.
A Late Consolation
Atalanta managed a consolation goal deep into stoppage time when Mario Pašalić found the net, but it did little to change the narrative of a one-sided night.
The result leaves the tie virtually decided, with Bayern holding a commanding advantage heading into the return leg in Munich.
For Atalanta, it was a harsh reminder of the ruthless level required to compete at the top of European football.
