SSC Napoli strengthened their hold on third place with a 2-1 victory over Torino FC on Matchday 28 of Serie A.
Antonio Conte’s side looked comfortable for most of the night, scoring once in each half through Alisson Santos and Eljif Elmas. Torino briefly threatened a late comeback thanks to Cesare Casadei, but Napoli ultimately held firm at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona.
Alisson Santos Sets the Tone
Napoli started strongly and needed only eight minutes to take the lead.
Alisson Santos collected the ball on the left flank, cut inside with pace, and drove diagonally across the defense before firing a low shot inside the near post. The Brazilian forward was a constant threat, repeatedly unsettling Torino’s back line with his direct running.
The hosts controlled the tempo for much of the first half, limiting Torino’s attacking presence. Giovanni Simeone and Duván Zapata struggled to find space against Napoli’s disciplined defensive structure.
Elmas Doubles the Lead
Napoli continued to dictate play after the break, and their second goal arrived in the 68th minute.
Matteo Politano delivered a clever aerial pass into the box, and Elmas reacted quickly, turning and finishing with a sharp strike to double the advantage. The North Macedonian midfielder combined tireless movement with clinical finishing, capping an excellent performance.
The match also marked the return of Frank Anguissa from injury, while Kevin De Bruyne made a brief late appearance, drawing applause from the home crowd.
Casadei Sparks Late Tension
Torino finally showed urgency in the closing stages.
In the 87th minute, substitute Adams delivered a precise cross that Casadei headed past Vanja Milinković-Savić, briefly raising hopes of an unlikely equalizer.
Despite the late push, the Granata lacked the time and precision to complete the comeback.
Napoli comfortably see out the win, ensuring they remain firmly in third place regardless of other results. Torino, meanwhile, are left looking over their shoulders in the battle to stay clear of the relegation zone.
