Atalanta 2–0 Fiorentina: Palladino Stings His Former Club as De Ketelaere Shines and Lookman Strikes Again

Kossounou’s surprise opener and Lookman’s instinct seal Atalanta’s first league win in over two months; Fiorentina still winless after 13 rounds.

Atalanta are finally back to winning in Serie A. Under new manager Raffaele Palladino, the Nerazzurri earned a convincing 2–0 victory over Fiorentina — a symbolic win for the coach, who faced his former club and delivered his first domestic success since taking over.

Fresh off their Champions League triumph in Frankfurt, Atalanta carried that momentum into Serie A. Fiorentina, meanwhile, continued their nightmare start: after 13 league matches, the Viola remain without a single victory and fully immersed in the relegation battle.

The match began with Fiorentina wasting a golden opportunity. After Carnesecchi spilled Kean’s shot, Piccoli had an open look from point-blank range but fired straight at the Atalanta keeper — a miss that would prove costly.

Atalanta then took control. Scamacca and De Ketelaere forced De Gea into back-to-back saves, and the pressure kept building. The breakthrough finally arrived in the 41st minute when Odilon Kossounou mishit a cross that unexpectedly curled into the top corner — a stunning and unintended goal that broke the deadlock and marked the Ivorian’s first strike in more than two years.

After the break, Atalanta doubled their lead through a familiar executioner. Lookman — who has scored more goals against Fiorentina than any other club in his career — reacted fastest after De Ketelaere’s header was saved, slamming in the rebound for 2–0. The Belgian was the standout performer of the match, orchestrating the attack with vision and confidence.

Fiorentina pushed with Kean and Mandragora, even hitting the post on a set piece, but Atalanta managed the lead smartly and saw out the victory. The Nerazzurri leap to 16 points and 11th place, while Fiorentina remain stuck at just six points and deep in trouble.
