After their setback against Napoli, Inter bounced back with authority. A 3-0 victory over Fiorentina puts Cristian Chivu’s side level with Milan in third place on 18 points after Matchday 9. All three goals came in the second half, as Inter finally broke through a stubborn Viola defense and an inspired David De Gea.
The first half saw De Gea at his best, producing two world-class saves to deny Bastoni and Dimarco. Fiorentina, pinned back for much of the opening 45 minutes, created little aside from a late effort by Moise Kean, comfortably stopped by Yann Sommer.
After the break, Inter’s intensity rose and the breakthrough came in the 66th minute. Hakan Calhanoglu controlled the ball at the edge of the box and curled a perfect low strike past De Gea to make it 1-0. Just five minutes later, Luka Sucic doubled the lead with a stunning individual goal — starting the move himself, exchanging passes with Lautaro, dribbling past Comuzzo with flair, and finishing sharply at the near post.
Fiorentina’s frustration peaked in the final minutes when Viti brought down Bonny in the box, earning a second yellow card and a red. Calhanoglu stepped up again from the spot to seal the 3-0 win with trademark composure.
Inter’s dominance and efficiency restored confidence and momentum, while Fiorentina’s struggles deepened — despite another excellent showing from De Gea, who prevented a heavier defeat.
