After Thorsby’s early strike, Torino overturn the deficit through Sabelli’s own goal and a stoppage-time winner from the Chilean defender.
Torino fight back to claim second straight win
Torino continued their positive run of form with a dramatic 2–1 home victory over Genoa in the Serie A Week 8 lunchtime fixture. Marco Baroni’s side, fresh off a surprise win over Napoli, came from behind to secure another three points — this time with a late flourish at the Stadio Olimpico Grande Torino.
The visitors struck first just eight minutes in, when Morten Thorsby capitalized on a defensive lapse to give the Rossoblù a shock lead. Genoa dominated much of the first half, keeping Torino pinned back and struggling to find rhythm in midfield.
After the break, however, the Granata regrouped and began to push higher up the pitch. Their persistence paid off in the 63rd minute when Sabelli, attempting to clear a low cross, accidentally diverted the ball past his own goalkeeper Leali to level the score.
The momentum shifted entirely in Torino’s favor, with substitutes Ngonge and Lazaro adding energy on the flanks. The comeback was completed in the final minute: Lazaro’s corner found Guillermo Maripán unmarked, and the Chilean defender unleashed a stunning right-footed volley into the net to make it 2–1.
The victory lifts Torino into mid-table alongside Cremonese on 11 points, while Patrick Vieira’s Genoa remain bottom of Serie A with just three points from eight matches.
