An important novelty comes today from Como 1907 that confirms a new path throughout the Academy on the management of the head stroke, designed to reduce the avoidable impacts to the head, protect the welfare of the players and promote a more effective technical development in the long term. The changes reflect a simple idea: protect first of all young players, and then teach the headshot in a controlled way when they are ready. Not before the age of 12, while in the younger age groups, attention will be paid more to contact with the ball, decision-making, effective play and a clear path that builds confidence and technique step by step.
This approach follows the latest guidelines for youth football, designed to reduce the unnecessary exposure to head blows in younger categories, gradually introducing this technique as players progress in their growth path.
Throughout the Academy, Como 1907 will also continue to carefully manage the exposure to head strikes near the matches, asking coaches to avoid unnecessary loads of exercises with the lead in the period immediately preceding and following the races.
Raphaël Varane, member of the Board of Education of Como 1907: “I’ve talked several times about the need to take the impacts seriously in football and the absolute importance of protecting our children. For young players, the best approach is made of clear rules, good training, awareness and a culture where well-being and security come first of all. This path reduces unnecessary contacts in younger age, when the brain is still developing, and then teaches the technique of the head stroke correctly, step by step, with the right control. ”
Osian Roberts, Head of Development of Como 1907: “Development depends on the environment around the player. At these age we want to work more time with the ball, transmit greater ability to observe the game, problem solving and make decisions calmly. Limiting the lead in the younger categories goes in this direction. Then we introduce it in a structured way, with clear limits, so that players can learn the technique carefully and safely. ”
