Napoli 2–3 Chelsea: Blues Complete Comeback at the Maradona, Conte Eliminated from the Champions League

Napoli fight back after an early setback, but Chelsea’s second-half surge seals a dramatic away win and knocks the Azzurri out of Europe.

Napoli’s Champions League journey came to an end on Matchday 8 after a thrilling but ultimately heartbreaking 3–2 home defeat against Chelsea at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona. In a match full of momentum swings, Antonio Conte’s side showed character to overturn an early deficit, only to be undone by Chelsea’s quality and depth in the second half.

With Atalanta, Inter and Juventus already assured of at least a place in the playoff round, Napoli were the only Serie A side still fighting for survival in the competition. They needed a result, but Chelsea’s late comeback denied the Azzurri any chance of progressing beyond the group stage.

Chelsea struck first in the 19th minute when Juan Jesus was penalized for a handball inside the box. Enzo Fernández stepped up and calmly converted the penalty to give the visitors a 1–0 lead. Napoli, however, refused to fold and gradually took control of the game.

The equalizer arrived in the 33rd minute thanks to an inspired attacking move down the left. Mathías Olivera once again proved decisive, setting up Vergara, who beat Fofana with a brilliant roulette before finishing past Sánchez. Napoli completed the turnaround just before halftime, as Olivera provided another assist, this time for Rasmus Højlund, who made it 2–1 with a composed finish.

In the second half, Chelsea head coach Rosenior reshuffled his side and introduced Cole Palmer, a move that changed the course of the match. The England international immediately made his presence felt, assisting João Pedro in the 60th minute. The Brazilian produced a stunning left-footed strike to restore parity.

Napoli struggled to regain their composure, and Chelsea pressed their advantage. Once again, Palmer and João Pedro combined, with the forward finding the decisive goal to complete the comeback and silence the Maradona crowd. Despite a late push from the hosts, Napoli were unable to find a third goal, confirming their elimination from the Champions League.
