The former Milan sporting director praises Massimiliano Allegri’s appointment in Naples, discusses Rafael Leão’s uncertain future, and suggests Roberto Mancini could be the right man to rebuild Italy.
Former Milan sporting director Igli Tare has offered a candid assessment of his recent experience with the Rossoneri, expressing concern over the club’s current direction while praising Napoli’s decision to appoint Massimiliano Allegri.
Speaking to SportMediaset, Tare admitted he hopes Milan can rediscover stability after a turbulent period that culminated in a sweeping overhaul of the club’s leadership.
“I hope Milan can find balance again and build a serious project for the future,” Tare said. “As for Allegri joining Napoli, he is a top-level coach. Napoli made a wise decision.”
Tare, who recently ended his spell at Milan, also addressed the uncertain future of Rafael Leão after the Portuguese winger publicly hinted at a desire to experience a new chapter in his career.
“I don’t know whether wanting a new experience is good or bad for Leão,” Tare explained. “But when a player feels that way, it usually means the relationship has reached its natural conclusion and the cycle is over.”
Despite the speculation surrounding the forward, Tare remains convinced that Leão possesses world-class qualities and believes consistency is the only element missing from his game.
“His talent is unquestionable,” he said. “He simply needs to find continuity throughout an entire match because he is the kind of player who can decide games on his own. That didn’t happen this season, partly because he had physical problems.”
Tare reserved some of his strongest praise for Allegri, revealing that the two remain in frequent contact and insisting that the former Juventus and Milan coach still has plenty to offer.
“Max and I speak often, every two or three days,” Tare revealed. “We made some mistakes, of course, but Allegri has achieved great things in Italian football and he will continue to do so.”
According to Tare, Napoli’s decision to entrust Allegri with the next phase of the club’s project perfectly matches the ambitions of the reigning Italian champions.
“It’s a decision that reflects the ambitions Napoli has and must continue to have heading into next season,” he added.
The Albanian executive also weighed in on the future of the Italian national team, identifying Roberto Mancini as a strong candidate to return to the bench.
“Italy can certainly restart from Mancini’s experience,” Tare said. “He is the last coach who won with the national team and could resume the work that was interrupted.”
Tare concluded by urging Italian football to be braver in promoting young talent.
“This is the moment to make courageous choices and invest in young players. There are many with great potential, as the results of our youth teams show. What is needed is courage, trust, and patience.”
