Verona 0–1 Sassuolo: Pinamonti’s Rebound Earns Grosso’s First Away Win

The Neroverdi clinch their first victory on the road as Pinamonti converts his own missed penalty, leaving Verona ruing wasted chances at the Bentegodi.

Sassuolo finally found success away from home with a narrow 1–0 win over Verona, thanks to a decisive moment from Andrea Pinamonti midway through the second half. The striker saw his penalty saved by Lorenzo Montipò but reacted fastest to tuck in the rebound — a moment that secured Fabio Grosso’s first away triumph as Sassuolo manager.

For Verona, it was another night of frustration. The Gialloblù produced plenty of energy and attacking movement but failed to make it count, continuing a worrying trend of missed opportunities that has cost them dearly this season.

The visitors looked dangerous early on. In the 13th minute, Frese denied Pinamonti from point-blank range before Volpato’s follow-up shot was blocked by Verona’s defense. The hosts replied immediately through Serdar, whose powerful effort forced a save from Muric.

Controversy arrived at the 17th minute when Verona were initially awarded a penalty for a handball by Volpato, only for VAR to overturn the decision due to an earlier foul by Nuñez on Muric. Undeterred, Verona kept pressing: Giovane, Orban, and Serdar all went close before halftime, while Laurienté fired just over from a free kick.

The turning point came after the hour mark, when substitutes Fadera and Thorstvedt injected new life into Sassuolo’s attack. Fadera, in particular, proved decisive — his dribbling and energy caused problems for Verona’s backline, and in the 70th minute, he won the penalty that led to the winning goal.

Pinamonti’s initial spot-kick was saved by Montipò, but the Sassuolo striker made no mistake on the rebound, giving the Neroverdi the edge in a match that could easily have gone either way.

The victory lifts Sassuolo to six points in the Serie A table, while Verona’s promising performances continue to lack the finishing touch needed to convert them into results.
