The Rossoneri club has made official the signing of the Portuguese, who could convince Leao to stay at Milan.
After many weeks of waiting, AC Milan has finally announced the name of their next Rossoneri coach. It’s Ruben Amorim, the Portuguese coach who arrives in Serie A after being sacked last season at Manchester United.
AC Milan fans weren’t thrilled with this decision by Gerry Cardinale, with whom they’ve been at loggerheads for some time. The name isn’t what many expected, but at least one box has been filled. AC Milan has a new manager after the dismissal of Max Allegri, who paid the price for failing to qualify for the Champions League.
Amorim isn’t a name that excites AC Milan fans. It won’t be a walk in the park for the former United manager, who will have to earn the trust of fans who have reached the end of their patience with the club, but he’ll also have to build a team alongside a sporting director who hasn’t yet been hired by the club.
Furthermore, with Amorim’s arrival, Rafa Leao’s future is once again in question. The Portuguese striker, fresh from his national team’s World Cup training camp, announced a few days ago that he wanted to leave AC Milan, calling his time with the Rossoneri over and expressing his desire to seek new experiences in new leagues.
These statements came after a disappointing season, during which Leao was never decisive, and his relationship with Allegri was never the best. Leao played in a different position under Allegri, a position on the pitch the Portuguese never wanted to play.
With the arrival of Amorim, the scenario could change. The fact that they are compatriots could play a key role, but also that Amorim plays with a 3421 or 343 formation, formations that are more suited to Leao, who could therefore return to shine with the Rossoneri.
However, any decision regarding Leao’s future has been postponed until the end of the World Cup. In the meantime, Amorim will work with Milan, hoping the club can officially appoint a sporting director as soon as possible, otherwise the Rossoneri transfer market will never get underway.
