Italiano’s Future at Bologna Nears Turning Point as Napoli Pushes for Conte Successor

Critical meetings are scheduled at Casteldebole as Bologna waits for answers while Napoli intensifies its pursuit of Vincenzo Italiano.

The future of Vincenzo Italiano could be decided within the next 48 hours.

A crucial summit is expected at Casteldebole between Italiano, his representatives, and the leadership of Bologna FC 1909 as uncertainty surrounding the coach continues to grow amid strong pressure from SSC Napoli.

According to reports in Italy, Italiano’s agents — Francesco Caliandro and Diego Nappi — spent several hours in Rome on Tuesday meeting with Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis and sporting director Giovanni Manna.

The coach himself reportedly did not attend the meeting directly, but discussions are believed to have produced a preliminary agreement on personal terms.

Napoli is said to be ready to offer Italiano a two-year contract worth approximately €3 million net per season plus bonuses, with an option for a third year.

Now Bologna wants clarity.

Club executives — including CEO Claudio Fenucci, sporting director Giovanni Sartori, and technical director Marco Di Vaio — are reportedly frustrated by how negotiations have unfolded over recent days.

Italian media suggests Bologna particularly disliked the repeated postponements of meetings by Italiano’s representatives while rumors surrounding Napoli intensified publicly.

Internally, however, Bologna is preparing for every possible scenario.

The club reportedly understands it would struggle to stop Italiano if he formally asks to leave for Napoli, especially given the scale of the opportunity and the growing instability surrounding Napoli’s coaching situation following Antonio Conte’s departure.

At the same time, Bologna also wants a rapid resolution.

The Rossoblù leadership does not intend to wait indefinitely while the coaching market moves around them, particularly because several potential replacement targets are already attracting interest elsewhere.

One name high on Bologna’s shortlist is Fabio Grosso, although the former Italy national football team defender is also extremely close to joining ACF Fiorentina.

Other options being evaluated include Eusebio Di Francesco and Daniele De Rossi, though De Rossi’s contractual situation with Genoa CFC could complicate any move.

Bologna has also discussed younger-profile candidates like Raffaele Palladino and Carlos Cuesta, appreciating the tactical continuity they could provide after Italiano’s aggressive, attack-minded system.

Despite the current tension, Bologna is not yet convinced the relationship with Italiano is beyond repair.

Inside the club, some executives reportedly remember the precedent involving Siniša Mihajlović, who once explored talks with SS Lazio before ultimately remaining fully committed to Bologna afterward.

Still, the feeling around Casteldebole is that this situation may be different.

Napoli’s interest is real.

Italiano’s ambition is well known.

And after guiding Bologna through another impressive season — including a Coppa Italia triumph and a deep European run — many believe the coach now feels ready for the next major step of his career.

The next two days could determine whether that step happens in Naples.
