Juventus throw away a two-goal lead in the Derby della Mole as Torino fight back through Casadei and Adams, condemning the Bianconeri to Europa League football
Juventus closed a disappointing Serie A campaign with a frustrating 2-2 draw against Torino in the Derby della Mole, officially missing out on Champions League qualification and settling for a place in next season’s Europa League.
Despite a clinical brace from Dusan Vlahovic, the Bianconeri failed to hold onto their advantage as Torino mounted a spirited comeback in the final half hour through Cesare Casadei and Che Adams.
The derby itself began under difficult circumstances after kickoff was delayed by more than an hour due to clashes between supporters outside the stadium, incidents that reportedly left a Juventus fan hospitalized in serious condition.
Once the match finally got underway, Juventus initially looked determined to keep alive their slim Champions League hopes.
Luciano Spalletti’s side opened the scoring in the 24th minute when Vlahovic reacted quickest inside the area, smashing the ball into the net after a fortunate deflection off Ebosse helped the move develop in Juventus’ favor.
By halftime, however, results from other stadiums had effectively ended Juventus’ hopes of finishing in the top four, changing the emotional tone of the contest.
Still, the visitors doubled their lead shortly after the restart. Francisco Conceição burst down the flank and delivered a precise assist for Vlahovic, who drilled a low diagonal finish into the far corner for his second goal of the night.
At 2-0, Juventus appeared in total control.
Torino refused to surrender.
In the 60th minute, substitute Cesare Casadei reignited the derby atmosphere by powering home a header to cut the deficit in half. The goal energized the home side and shifted momentum completely.
Juventus struggled to respond as Torino pushed forward with increasing intensity, and six minutes from full time the equalizer finally arrived.
Che Adams found space inside the box and finished clinically to make it 2-2, completing the comeback and sending the Torino supporters into celebration.
The final whistle confirmed Juventus’ disappointing sixth-place finish, while Torino ended their season with pride after rescuing a result in the city derby.
