Inter fail to celebrate their newly secured 21st Serie A title with a victory as Verona strike in stoppage time to earn a draw at San Siro on Matchday 37.
FC Internazionale Milano were denied victory in dramatic fashion as Hellas Verona FC grabbed a late 1-1 draw at San Siro during the Nerazzurri’s Scudetto celebration match.
Just days after lifting the Coppa Italia against Lazio and officially clinching their 21st Serie A title, Inter were unable to close out the evening with another win in front of a packed home crowd. Verona, despite already being relegated, once again showed resilience and continued their strong run of competitive performances against top opposition.
San Siro created a festive atmosphere from kickoff, but the match itself proved more complicated than expected for Cristian Chivu’s side. Inter controlled possession and generated more chances overall, yet Verona remained dangerous throughout the game and nearly scored first through Lovric, whose effort was brilliantly saved by Yann Sommer.
The breakthrough finally arrived immediately after halftime. In the 47th minute, Bonny rose highest on a corner kick and forced a defensive deflection from Edmundsson, whose own goal wrong-footed Lorenzo Montipò and handed Inter a 1-0 lead.
Montipò, however, was outstanding for Verona and repeatedly denied the Nerazzurri throughout the evening. Lautaro Martinez endured a frustrating performance in front of goal, while Henrikh Mkhitaryan also failed to convert several promising opportunities.
With the scoreline remaining narrow, Verona continued to believe they could find an equalizer — and they eventually did deep into stoppage time. In the 91st minute, a long ball from defense caught Carlos Augusto out of position, allowing Bowie to race through and slot a low finish past substitute goalkeeper Raffaele Di Gennaro.
The late goal spoiled Inter’s celebrations but highlighted Verona’s determination despite relegation. For the Nerazzurri, the draw changes little in the standings but serves as a reminder that finishing the season strongly remains important ahead of the summer.
