Pinamonti hits the post, Fiorentina waste chances as both sides settle for a point on Matchday 34
Fiorentina took another small but potentially decisive step toward Serie A survival, drawing 0-0 against Sassuolo at the Stadio Franchi on Matchday 34. Despite the lack of goals, the match offered moments of quality at both ends, with goalkeepers playing a key role.
The Viola, coming off a difficult season, are now within touching distance of mathematical safety, though confirmation will have to wait. Sassuolo, meanwhile, showed flashes of danger but lacked the cutting edge to claim all three points.
The visitors started brightly, imposing a higher tempo in the early stages. Their first real chance came before the 15-minute mark, when Ulisses Garcia tested David De Gea, who responded with a sharp save to keep the score level.
Fiorentina gradually grew into the game, relying on the movement of Gudmundsson and Solomon. The latter had the best opportunity of the first half but failed to hit the target from close range in the 32nd minute—an error that summed up the hosts’ struggles in front of goal.
In the second half, Sassuolo pushed their line higher, but Fiorentina continued to look more dangerous on the break. Solomon wasted another promising counterattack, while Dodò forced a strong save from Stefano Turati, who proved to be one of the standout performers of the match.
The closest either side came to scoring arrived just before the hour mark. Andrea Pinamonti, latching onto a cross from Laurienté, struck the post with a well-timed movement in the box—denied only by inches.
Turati was called into action again in the 73rd minute, producing an excellent stop from Gudmundsson at close range to preserve the clean sheet. From there, both teams struggled to find a breakthrough, and the match ended goalless.
The result keeps Fiorentina moving forward in their survival push, while Sassuolo remain competitive but inconsistent in the final stretch of the season.
