Fiorentina collapse in London as Crystal Palace take firm control of the Conference League quarterfinal on Matchday 31.
Fiorentina suffered a heavy 3-0 defeat against Crystal Palace in the first leg of their Conference League quarterfinal, leaving the Italian side with a mountain to climb in the return fixture.
The Viola started with intent but failed to capitalize on their early opportunity, as Robin Gosens misfired from a promising position. Crystal Palace quickly grew into the match and nearly took the lead through Guessand, whose effort drifted just wide.
The breakthrough came in the 22nd minute when Dodò committed a late challenge in the box, conceding a penalty. Jean-Philippe Mateta stepped up and calmly converted, sending David De Gea the wrong way.
Just minutes later, the hosts doubled their lead. A brilliant acrobatic assist from Daniel Muñoz created chaos in the box, and after De Gea’s initial save, Tyrick Mitchell reacted quickest to score the rebound.
Fiorentina struggled to respond, with their attacking players largely ineffective throughout the match. Albert Gudmundsson and Harrison failed to make an impact, while Dodò endured a particularly difficult evening.
In the second half, Crystal Palace continued to threaten and eventually sealed the result in stoppage time. Ismaïla Sarr rose above the defense to head home from a Kamada assist, making it 3-0 and putting the tie firmly in Palace’s control.
Fiorentina’s only bright spots came from Nicolò Fagioli’s composure in midfield and the work rate of Piccoli, but it was far from enough on a disappointing night for the Italian side.
