Fabregas Slams Gasperini: “What He Did Was Not Sporting” (VIDEO)
Cesc Fabregas did not hide his disappointment with Gian Piero Gasperini after their teams’ match, accusing the Roma manager of behaving in an unsporting manner at the final whistle.
Following Como’s 2-1 victory, the Spanish coach revealed that Gasperini left the pitch without shaking his hand — a gesture Fabregas considered disrespectful.
“It’s a Matter of Respect”
Fabregas explained that, regardless of the result or tensions during the match, the handshake between coaches should always happen.
“I found it antisporting,” he said. “Even when I’m angry, when I get sent off or when I think the referee has wronged me, I always go and shake the opponent’s hand. It’s a matter of respect.”
According to the Como coach, Gasperini walked away when he approached him after the final whistle.
“I went to greet him as I always do, but I saw him leave. It disappointed me,” Fabregas added.
“We Must Set an Example”
Fabregas also stressed that coaches have a responsibility to set the right example, especially for young fans watching the game.
“When the match ends, everything should end there,” he said. “We must remember that young people are watching us. We have the duty to set the right example.”
The Spaniard admitted that he himself has made mistakes in the past but believes respect between coaches should always come first.
Match Analysis
Despite the controversy, Fabregas focused on the performance of his Como 1907 side.
He felt the first half result did not reflect the balance of the match, but praised his team’s reaction after the break.
“In the second half we raised our level and reacted very well,” he said. “We managed to turn the game around.”
Fabregas also rejected the idea that the result represents a decisive step toward Champions League qualification.
“We’re fourth, but we’re not qualified yet,” he concluded.
