The tension between Gian Piero Gasperini and Cesc Fabregas continued after Como’s 2–1 win over Roma, with the Giallorossi manager responding sharply to the criticism he received for not shaking hands after the match.
Fabregas had previously described Gasperini’s decision to walk away at the final whistle as “unsporting,” but the Roma coach rejected the accusation and turned the criticism back toward the opposition.
Gasperini’s Response
Speaking to ANSA, Gasperini defended his behavior and questioned the conduct of the Como bench during the game.
“Como are a strong team,” he said, “but I don’t respect their behavior, both on the pitch and on the bench.”
His comments directly addressed the controversy sparked after Fabregas publicly complained about the lack of a post-match handshake.
Fabregas’ Criticism
After the match, Fabregas explained that he considers the handshake between coaches a fundamental sign of respect.
“Whether I’m angry, happy, losing, winning or even sent off, I’ve never left the field without shaking the other coach’s hand,” the Como manager said.
“For me it’s a matter of respect.”
Fabregas added that he approached Gasperini after the final whistle but saw him heading straight toward the tunnel instead.
“When I saw him leaving, I was disappointed,” he said.
A Growing Touchline Rivalry
The episode has intensified tensions between the two managers following the match between Como 1907 and AS Roma.
While Fabregas called for respect and sportsmanship, Gasperini suggested that the behavior from the Como side during the match contributed to his reaction.
The exchange has quickly become one of the most talked-about sideline controversies in recent weeks in Serie A.
