Juventus coach previews the match with Pisa, confirms Vlahović is out, and praises McKennie’s versatility
With a crucial stretch of Serie A approaching, Juventus head coach Luciano Spalletti mixed humor and caution as he spoke ahead of the match against Pisa.
Juventus are chasing Champions League qualification, and the upcoming run of games — Pisa, Udinese, Sassuolo, and Genoa — could define the club’s season.
“We’ve said it many times: we cannot lose focus,” Spalletti warned. “After so many high-pressure matches, the risk is a drop in intensity. But I see a good future for this team. Even during difficult moments, the squad has shown it’s alive.”
“I’ll Live in Comolli’s Building…”
Spalletti was also asked about his contract renewal, which is expected to be discussed in the coming days. His answer came with a smile.
“We’ll talk about it this week, calmly and without any rush,” he said. “I’m going to live in the same building as Damien Comolli and Giorgio Chiellini, so we’ll discuss it on the staircase when I leave the house.”
Behind the joke, Spalletti confirmed that discussions about the future have already taken place.
“We’ve already reflected on my future and Juventus’ future — the plans and everything else. We’re not where the club should be in the table, but the push comes from the support of our fans.”
Vlahović Out, Eyes on Udine
One player who will not feature against Pisa is Dušan Vlahović.
“He’s working well and improving, but he won’t be available for this match,” Spalletti explained. “We’re targeting his return for the next one in Udine.”
There was also praise for goalkeeper Michele Di Gregorio, who has faced criticism in recent weeks.
“It’s unfair to put one player on trial when the difficulties are collective,” Spalletti said. “When things are going well, individuals shine more easily. In tough moments, responsibility belongs to everyone.”
Yildiz Still the Key
Much of Juventus’ attacking creativity continues to revolve around Kenan Yildiz, who recently took a heavy knock but remains determined to play.
“He’s tough,” Spalletti said. “Beyond the talent, he has a strong character. Opponents put their best defenders and double-teams on him. That takes something away from him, but it also frees space for teammates.”
McKennie: “A Very Strong Player”
The Juventus coach reserved special praise for Weston McKennie, highlighting both his quality and versatility.
“We’ve played him everywhere — right, left — and he always delivers,” Spalletti said. “That tells you everything about the player’s structure and mentality. He’s a fantastic footballer and a great person.”
A Dangerous Match Despite the Table
Despite Pisa’s struggles in the standings, Spalletti warned against complacency.
“Everyone thinks this is an easy match,” he said. “But that’s exactly when you can hit your teeth against the wall. If a player thinks the game will be simple, he becomes superficial — and that’s dangerous.”
