Verona 0–0 Pisa: Relegation Six-Pointer Ends Scoreless at the Bentegodi

Posts, missed chances and nervous tension define a tight survival battle as Verona and Pisa settle for a point on Matchday 24.

Hellas Verona and Pisa shared the spoils in a tense 0–0 draw at the Bentegodi, a result that reflected both the importance of the occasion and the fear of losing. In a direct relegation battle between two sides level at the bottom of the Serie A table, neither team managed to find the decisive breakthrough.

The match also marked a fresh start on both benches, with Sammarco making his debut as Verona head coach and Hiljemark taking charge of Pisa for the first time. The high stakes were evident from the opening minutes, as both sides approached the game cautiously.

The first half was largely a chess match, with long spells of probing play and few risks taken. After around 20 minutes, Verona began to push forward with greater intent and nearly took the lead in the 34th minute, when Orban’s superb free kick crashed against the post, leaving Pisa breathing a sigh of relief.

The pattern remained similar after the break, although Pisa gradually raised their defensive line and tried to be more proactive. The first real chance of the second half arrived around the hour mark, when Moreo found space at the far post but failed to connect cleanly with a poorly weighted delivery from Stojilkovic.

Verona continued to enjoy more territorial control, yet struggled to break down a well-organized Pisa side that appeared content with a draw. Ironically, it was Pisa who came closest to scoring in the final stages. In the 80th minute, Moreo’s powerful header from a corner struck the post, before Montipò produced a brilliant save moments later to deny Caracciolo from close range.

The visitors had one last opportunity at 87 minutes, when Meister found himself one-on-one with Montipò, but the Verona goalkeeper stood firm once again to preserve the clean sheet.

The final whistle confirmed a goalless draw that allows both teams to inch forward in the standings, but does little to simplify their difficult road to safety.
