The Rossoneri are confident of extending the French goalkeeper’s contract through 2031 on improved terms
AC Milan and Mike Maignan are edging closer to a long-awaited agreement. After months of ups and downs, the two sides are now aligned and increasingly confident that a contract extension is imminent, with only final details left to settle.
Negotiations have intensified in recent days, and a decisive meeting is expected shortly after Milan’s upcoming trip to Rome. The French goalkeeper’s representatives, led by agent Jonathan Kebe, are scheduled to return to Milan for talks that could formally close the deal. This time, the mood is markedly optimistic.
The proposed agreement would see Maignan sign a new contract running through June 2031. Milan’s offer is built around a base salary of €5 million net per season, with performance-related bonuses that could bring his earnings close to the level of Rafael Leão, currently the club’s top earner. Notably, the deal would not include a release clause — a clear signal of Milan’s desire to make Maignan a long-term cornerstone of the project.
This scenario represents a dramatic shift from the uncertainty that surrounded Maignan earlier in the season. Last summer, the goalkeeper had been open to a move to Chelsea, before Milan firmly rejected the Premier League club’s approach. At that stage, his future in red and black appeared unresolved, especially with his previous contract set to expire at the end of the current season.
Complicating matters further were events at the start of 2025, when Milan temporarily withdrew a renewal proposal following a dip in form. However, the club’s leadership never abandoned the idea of keeping Maignan. Sporting director Igli Tare, CEO Giorgio Furlani, head coach Massimiliano Allegri, and the technical staff all worked to rebuild trust and reaffirm the goalkeeper’s central role.
Strong performances on the pitch have done the rest. Maignan has rediscovered top form and developed a strong connection with Allegri, assistant coach Marco Landucci, and new goalkeeping coach Claudio Filippi. The renewed sense of confidence and stability has reignited the goalkeeper’s enthusiasm for Milan, turning what once seemed a temporary stay into a long-term commitment.
All that remains now is the signature. If the final meeting confirms current expectations, Milan will soon secure one of the most important pieces of their squad for years to come.
