Lecce–Verona 0–0: VAR Cancels Penalty, Stalemate in the South

Few emotions at the Via del Mare: Abisso revokes a second-half penalty for Lecce after reviewing contact between Bella-Kotchap and Camarda. Both sides still without a league win.

The relegation six-pointer between Lecce and Verona ended exactly as it began — goalless and largely uneventful. At the Via del Mare, Eusebio Di Francesco’s Lecce once again failed to secure their first home victory of the season, while Paolo Zanetti’s Verona remain the only Serie A team yet to celebrate a win.

Chances were scarce throughout, with both defenses in control and attacking quality in short supply. The game’s most dramatic moment came midway through the second half, when referee Abisso initially awarded Lecce a penalty for a foul by Bella-Kotchap on Camarda. After being called to the monitor by VAR, however, the decision was overturned — correctly — as replays showed minimal contact.

Lecce pushed late on through Banda and substitute Sottil, but Montipò stayed alert. Verona relied mainly on counterattacks led by Giovane and Bradaric, yet never truly threatened Falcone. The final whistle confirmed a 0–0 that suits neither side: Lecce stay hovering above the relegation zone, and Verona’s wait for that elusive first victory continues.
