Roma came away with a valuable road victory in Pisa, but it was far from easy. The hosts impressed in the first half, creating the best chances of the opening 45 minutes and forcing goalkeeper Mile Svilar into a crucial early save.
The breakthrough came only after Paulo Dybala was introduced at the start of the second half. The Argentine immediately lifted Roma’s tempo with his creativity, and within ten minutes the visitors found the winner: Dybala drove into the box, laid it off for Lewis Ferguson, who set up Matías Soulé for a precise first-time finish past Semper in the 55th minute.
Curiously, all six of Soulé’s Serie A goals for Roma have come away from home. He nearly had a second just minutes later, but his effort was disallowed for a handball in the buildup. Pisa, who had looked sharp early on with striker Meister twice threatening, faded in the second half and never found a way back into the match.
In stoppage time, new signing Artem Dovbyk almost sealed it with a chance set up by Koné, but the score remained 1-0 at the final whistle. For Gasperini’s Roma, it was a hard-fought success that keeps momentum building.
