The Goddess fails to break through at the Gewiss, Gilardino celebrates a historic point on Pisa’s Serie A return.
Atalanta’s league debut ends in disappointment: at the Gewiss Stadium it finishes 1-1 against newly promoted Pisa, as Alberto Gilardino’s side picks up their first top-flight point in 34 years.
The match started with an early shock for Juric’s men: in the 26th minute, Hien, attempting to anticipate Meister, accidentally deflected the ball into his own net, handing Pisa the lead. The Bergamo side equalized shortly after halftime, when Gianluca Scamacca ended his goal drought dating back to May 2024 with a well-taken strike to make it 1-1.
Atalanta pushed hard to complete the comeback, and Scamacca nearly grabbed a brace with a thunderous effort that rattled the crossbar, but Pisa’s defensive wall held firm until the final whistle. For Gilardino and his team, it was a point worth celebrating, while Juric will need to reflect on his side’s lack of cutting edge and overall form.
