Road to 2026

Haiti successfully navigated two demanding Concacaf qualification rounds. After finishing second behind Curaçao in the second round, Les Grenadiers entered a difficult final group featuring Costa Rica, Honduras, and Nicaragua.

Haiti responded with three wins, two draws, and only one defeat in six matches, finishing first in Group C and securing its first World Cup berth since 1974.

The First World Cup

Haiti made its World Cup debut in 1974 after winning the 1973 Concacaf Championship in Port-au-Prince.

Drawn into a brutally difficult group with Italy, Argentina, and Poland, Les Grenadiers lost all three matches but produced one of the tournament’s most memorable moments against Italy.

Legendary Player

Emmanuel “Manno” Sanon remains Haiti’s greatest World Cup figure. He scored both of Haiti’s goals at the 1974 tournament and became the first Haitian player to score at the World Cup.

His goal against Italy famously ended Dino Zoff’s long international shutout streak and remains one of the most iconic moments in Haitian football history.

Players to Watch

  • Frantzdy Pierrot – Powerful striker who gives Haiti a physical presence up front.
  • Danley Jean Jacques – Midfield engine with energy, ball-winning ability, and European experience.
  • Johny Placide – Veteran goalkeeper and key voice in the dressing room.

Greatest World Cup Moment

Haiti’s most famous World Cup moment came against Italy in 1974. Emmanuel Sanon broke through the Italian defense and scored past legendary goalkeeper Dino Zoff, ending a 19-match streak without conceding.

Although Italy eventually won 3-1, Sanon’s goal became a symbol of Haitian pride and remains one of Concacaf’s classic World Cup memories.

2026 Expectations

After 52 years away, Haiti arrives with nothing to lose and everything to prove. Les Grenadiers are ready to write a new World Cup story.
