The Nerazzurri are preparing a major squad reset with a new midfield piece and a long-term solution between the posts
Inter’s summer strategy is already coming into focus—and it points toward a club ready to refresh key areas of the squad.
From midfield to goal, the Nerazzurri are planning decisive moves. The return of Aleksandar Stankovic and the pursuit of Guglielmo Vicario signal a shift toward a younger, more sustainable core under Cristian Chivu.
Stankovic’s Return Signals a New Midfield Cycle

Some returns are sentimental. This one is strategic.
Inter have decided to bring back Aleksandar Stankovic this summer after his breakout campaign with Club Brugge. The Italian side will activate a buy-back clause worth around €23 million, accelerating a plan that originally allowed for a later return in 2027.
The reasoning is simple: Stankovic is ready now.
Having developed rapidly in Belgium, the midfielder—son of club legend Dejan Stankovic—returns not as a prospect, but as a legitimate first-team option. Chivu, who coached him in the youth setup, sees him as a player he can trust immediately.
More importantly, his arrival comes at a time of uncertainty in Inter’s midfield. Questions remain over the futures and form of several key players, including Hakan Calhanoglu, Henrikh Mkhitaryan, and Nicolo Barella, while Davide Frattesi could be on his way out.
Even the more consistent Piotr Zielinski is entering the later stages of his career. In that context, Stankovic represents fresh energy and long-term upside, with a market value already estimated between €30 and €40 million.
Vicario Emerges as the Priority Between the Posts
Inter’s rebuild isn’t limited to midfield.
The club is also preparing for life after Yann Sommer, whose contract expires at the end of the season. The leading candidate to replace him is Tottenham goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario.
Currently playing for Tottenham Hotspur, Vicario has endured a turbulent campaign in England, with the club struggling both domestically and in Europe. That instability could open the door for a move.
The Italian goalkeeper is reportedly open to returning to Serie A after his experience abroad, and Inter have long considered him an ideal fit. Back in 2023, he was their top choice before the delayed sale of Andre Onana changed their plans.
Now, with a potential transfer fee in the €15–20 million range, the deal is viewed as achievable.
Inter are also evaluating alternatives such as Andriy Lunin, Emiliano Martinez, and Alisson Becker, but Vicario remains the preferred option.
Inter’s direction is becoming clear: blend youth, familiarity, and long-term planning.
Bringing back Stankovic and targeting Vicario would not just address immediate needs—it would lay the foundation for the club’s next competitive cycle.
