Verona 0-3 Torino: Simeone Strikes Against His Former Club as Granata Cruise at the Bentegodi

Clinical finishing and decisive substitutions seal Torino’s first Serie A win of 2026 on Matchday 18.

Despite a match that was largely balanced for long stretches, Torino delivered a ruthless performance to beat Hellas Verona 3-0 away from home, claiming their first victory of 2026 and climbing into the top half of the table.

The Granata made the most of Verona’s defensive mistakes and their own bench impact, with Giovanni Simeone once again proving the “ex-player rule” before late goals from Casadei and Njie turned a tight contest into a lopsided scoreline.

Torino started aggressively and found the opener thanks to a costly error from the hosts. Bernede played an overhit back pass that put Nelsson under pressure; the former Roma defender failed to control it, allowing Simeone to sprint clear on goal and beat Montipò with a right-footed finish. Out of respect for his former fans, the Argentine striker chose not to celebrate.

After taking the lead, Torino kept the tempo high throughout the first half, pressing all over the pitch and creating chances to put the game to bed, though they lacked precision in the final touch.

The pattern shifted after halftime, with Verona pushing higher and pinning Torino back into their own half. The Gialloblù showed intensity and intent but repeatedly faltered with the final pass, failing to truly test Paleari.

As Verona committed more men forward, space opened up—and Torino punished them. In the 87th minute, Njie led a sharp counterattack and squared the ball for Casadei, who calmly finished inside the post to make it 2-0. Verona mentally checked out, and moments later Njie himself capped off another breakaway to seal the 3-0 and the final knockout blow.

The win lifts Torino past Udinese and Cremonese, level with Sassuolo in tenth place, while Verona are left to rue individual errors that turned an even match into a heavy defeat.
