After seven months of stop for injury and a retrocession lived by the viewer, Domenico Berardi returned to the field with the Sassuolo jersey, a club that considers his second family. In an interview with La Gazzetta dello Sport, the attacker spoke of his deep connection with the blackgreen team and ambitions for the future.
“This is my second family and is not a way of saying,” Berardi said. “I will never forget the relationship with Dr. Squinzi and his wife, who treated me as a son and made me grow up. It was mutual love.” Words that highlight the strong link of the player with the club, which has always chosen to stay despite the numerous market noises.
Berardi also reflected on his past, revealing some career choices. “Until the 26-27 years I didn’t feel mature, I didn’t accept the idea of turnover and bench, perhaps due to lack of confidence in my means,” he admitted. “Three years ago the Atalanta wanted me, but I said no because I didn’t think I was suitable for that kind of game. Last year I wanted to go to Juventus, but the clubs did not agree. I got sick and fought with society because it was the right time.”.
Looking at the future, Berardi does not exclude a possible farewell to Sassuolo already in January: “If after these months I will be 100% and the right offer will come, I will go away. Otherwise, I’ll stay here until June. We will value with society as always.” Your biggest dream? “I would like to hear the Champions League music from the field, it’s a deep ambition that I want to satisfy,” he concluded.
The Sassuolo striker seems therefore open to new challenges, but his heart will always remain tied to what he himself defines his “second family”.
