The Rossoneri sporting director speaks on the goalkeeper’s renewal, Nkunku’s future and faith in Jashari
After months of uncertainty and growing anxiety around Mike Maignan’s future, optimism is finally returning at AC Milan. Speaking ahead of the match against Fiorentina, sporting director Igli Tare offered reassuring words on the renewal talks with the French goalkeeper, sending a clear message to fans and the locker room alike.
Maignan-Milan: optimism grows
“The relationship with Mike is extraordinary,” Tare explained. “He likes the Milan project and he wants to stay. Until we get the green light we still need to wait a bit, but I’m confident that, in the end, common sense will find the right path. Maignan would be a crucial piece for this team and for the club’s future project.”
It’s a significant shift in tone after weeks of speculation that had cast doubts over the long-term future of the Rossoneri’s number one. Maignan, now 30, remains a cornerstone of Milan’s ambitions, both on and off the pitch, and the club sees him as a leader for the next cycle.
Nkunku and squad stability
Tare was more concise when asked about Christopher Nkunku, whose name has recently surfaced in market rumours: “He is a Milan player, and we’re happy that he is still a Milan player.” A short statement, but one that reinforces the club’s intention to maintain continuity rather than dismantle the squad mid-season.
Trust in Jashari
The sporting director also highlighted the progress of Ardon Jashari, underlining Milan’s confidence in the young midfielder: “We have high expectations for him. Last season he showed important performances and quality. Over the past two months he’s been doing very well, he’s recovered from injury and played in both the Coppa Italia and the Supercoppa. He has shown he belongs at a club like Milan and will be an important part of the team’s future.”
With Maignan’s renewal now framed in a more positive light, Milan hope to secure stability around one of their most influential players — a key step as the club looks to build consistency on the pitch and clarity off it.
