Raspadori to Roma? Agreement Close With Atlético Madrid, Decision Now Up to the Player

Roma and Atlético have reached a near-deal on a loan with option-to-buy that would become mandatory — now Giacomo Raspadori must choose whether to return to Italy

The framework is in place. Now it’s up to the player.

According to reports originating in Spain and confirmed in Italy, AS Roma and Atlético Madrid are close to finalizing an agreement for Giacomo Raspadori. The deal would be structured as a paid loan with an option to buy, which would turn into an obligation under specific conditions, for a total package worth around €22 million.

With the clubs largely aligned, the decisive step now belongs to Raspadori himself. The Italian attacker must reach personal terms with Roma and decide whether to leave Spain after less than five months, returning to Serie A in the middle of the season.

Roma Push, Atlético Look to Recover Their Investment

Raspadori officially joined Atlético Madrid on August 11, following a summer move valued at €22 million plus an additional €4 million in bonuses. Given that investment, the Spanish club’s priority is clear: recoup the bulk of the transfer fee, if not immediately, then at least by next summer.

Roma’s proposal fits that logic. The loan-with-obligation formula would allow Atlético to protect their financial position while giving the Giallorossi an attacker who matches Gian Piero Gasperini’s tactical ideas — a forward capable of linking play, attacking space, and contributing both goals and assists.

The Player’s Choice

From Raspadori’s side, several elements are already clear. He is not considering offers from Turkey, despite concrete interest, and remains focused on staying at the highest competitive level. In Italy, his profile continues to attract attention, but Roma have moved faster and more decisively than the competition.

A return to Serie A would also put Raspadori back in a familiar environment ahead of a crucial year leading into the 2026 World Cup cycle. The question is whether he is ready to close the Spanish chapter so soon — or whether he believes his future still lies in La Liga.

For now, the clubs have done their part. The ball is firmly at Raspadori’s feet.
