Giallorossi dominate in Glasgow as the young striker delivers a statement performance and Roma strengthen their push for a direct spot in the Europa League Round of 16.
Roma delivered one of their most convincing European performances of the season, sweeping Celtic aside 3–0 at Celtic Park in Matchday 6 of the Europa League’s league-phase format.
An own goal from Scales and a ruthless first-half brace from Evan Ferguson sealed the victory for Gian Piero Gasperini’s team, who looked in full control from start to finish.
Celtic, by contrast, were overwhelmed: wasteful in the final third, fragile in defense, and unable to match Roma’s tempo. Even a penalty awarded in the second half failed to reopen the contest, with Engels striking the post.
Roma strike early and never look back
The match opened with immediate pressure from Roma, rewarded just six minutes in when Scales mistimed a clearance and headed the ball into his own goal while trying to anticipate Mancini.
From there, it was the Ferguson show. The Irish striker doubled Roma’s advantage in the 36th minute, finishing from close range after Celik’s driven cross. Then, in first-half stoppage time, he controlled a through-ball from Soulé and slotted a composed left-footed finish into the far corner—his most impressive moment of the evening.
Celtic’s only lifeline came early in the second half when a light shirt tug from Hermoso resulted in a VAR-assisted penalty review. Engels stepped up but smashed his attempt off the post, ending any hope of a comeback.
Roma continued to control the pace, and Gasperini even found room to rotate, giving minutes to Bailey, Dybala, Pellegrini, and others as the match wound down. Bailey would later score, but the goal was disallowed for offside after VAR intervention.
With this win, Roma significantly strengthen their chances of qualifying directly for the Round of 16, avoiding the playoff round.
