Genoa finally broke their home curse with a dramatic 2–1 comeback win over Hellas Verona at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris — a huge step in their fight for survival and Daniele De Rossi’s first home victory as Genoa boss. For Verona, meanwhile, the crisis deepens: still winless and unable to hold onto an early lead.
The match opened at a lively pace, with Belghali testing Leali inside the first ten minutes. But against the run of early possession, it was Verona who struck first in the 21st minute: Mosquera whipped in a dangerous ball, and Belghali pounced on the loose rebound to tap home for 0–1. Moments later, Zanetti was forced into an early change as Bradaric went down injured and Frese entered.
Genoa struggled to respond initially, but found their breakthrough before halftime. Vitinha lifted a smart cross into the box, and Colombo — calm and precise — controlled and finished left-footed past Montipò at the 40th minute, restoring life to the Ferraris and sending the sides into the break level.
The Grifone thought they had completed the turnaround early in the second half when Vitinha scored, but VAR ruled the goal offside. Shortly after, Ostigard struck the post in a near miss that foreshadowed what was coming. Genoa’s pressure finally paid off in the 62nd minute: Ellertsson delivered a sharp ball into the box, and Thorsby redirected it into the net for the decisive 2–1.
Verona, desperate for points, pushed hard. Orban forced Leali into a superb reflex stop, and in the closing minutes the visitors had two huge opportunities — first Orban, then Giovane — but Vasquez and Leali came up big to preserve the lead.
