Verona–Inter 1–2: Frese’s Own Goal in Added Time Keeps Nerazzurri Chasing the Top

A late own goal gifts Inter their seventh Serie A win as Chivu’s men edge Verona in dramatic fashion under the rain at the Bentegodi.

Inter escaped Verona with all three points after a wild finish at the Bentegodi, where a 94th-minute own goal by Frese handed the Nerazzurri a 2–1 victory and extended their unbeaten run in Serie A.

It was a game that looked set for a draw until the dying seconds. Inter started brightly, pressing high and creating early danger through Zielinski and Lautaro Martínez. The Polish midfielder opened the scoring in the 16th minute with a spectacular first-time volley from the edge of the box, connecting perfectly with Calhanoglu’s corner delivery.

The goal seemed to put the game in Inter’s control, but Verona refused to fold. The hosts grew into the match, with Orban and Giovane leading the charge. Just before halftime, Giovane produced a moment of brilliance — beating Bastoni one-on-one before rifling a right-footed shot past Sommer to make it 1–1. Moments later, Orban struck the post with the keeper beaten, nearly completing the turnaround.

The second half remained balanced, with Chivu making several changes in search of a spark. Verona defended bravely, but Inter’s persistence paid off in stoppage time. In the 94th minute, Barella’s cross caused chaos in the box, and Frese — attempting to clear — accidentally headed the ball into his own net.

It was a cruel end for Verona, who had battled valiantly, but Inter celebrated a massive away win that keeps them firmly in the title race.
