Ricci scores his first goal for Milan, but Atalanta equalize through Lookman to claim their seventh draw in nine Serie A matches. Allegri’s side fail to keep pace with Napoli after another missed opportunity on the road.
Atalanta’s draw streak continues. The Bergamo side recorded their seventh tie in nine league games, finishing 1-1 with Milan at the New Balance Arena on Matchday 9. For the Rossoneri, it was a frustrating evening that saw them take an early lead but fail to turn it into three points — a result that keeps them trailing behind Napoli at the top.
Milan opened the scoring just four minutes in when Samuele Ricci found the net with a deflected shot that wrong-footed Marco Carnesecchi. It was Ricci’s first goal since joining the club, and it seemed to set the tone for an assertive Milan display.
However, Atalanta quickly grew into the game. Ahanor wasted a golden chance to equalize when his shot sailed over the bar from close range, but the home crowd didn’t have to wait long. In the 35th minute, Mario Pašalić slipped a perfect ball through to Ademola Lookman, who blasted his finish under the crossbar for his first goal of the season.
In the second half, Milan manager Massimiliano Allegri brought on Loftus-Cheek and Nkunku, while leaving Leão on the bench after a quiet first half. The changes added energy but not precision. Atalanta, meanwhile, suffered injury setbacks with de Roon and Gimenez forced off, yet still came close to winning it late — denied only by a superb Maignan save on Zappacosta’s curling effort.
The draw leaves Atalanta’s consistency intact but their ambition in question, while Milan will rue another night of missed chances that keeps them chasing Napoli from behind.
