McTominay’s early header gave Napoli brief hope, but a disastrous defensive display and a red card for Lucca sealed a humiliating night in Eindhoven.
Napoli’s Champions League nightmare deepened in the Netherlands, as Antonio Conte’s side were thrashed 6–2 by PSV Eindhoven in a match that laid bare all of the champions’ current flaws. The Partenopei, who had started brightly and even taken the lead, completely fell apart after a seven-minute collapse in the first half and never recovered.
Napoli began on the front foot, controlling possession and pushing the hosts back. Their positive start was rewarded in the 31st minute when Leonardo Spinazzola delivered a pinpoint cross from the left for Scott McTominay, who powered home a header to make it 1–0.
But the joy was short-lived. Only four minutes later, Torino loanee Alessandro Buongiorno accidentally headed into his own net while trying to clear a Perisic cross. Moments later, PSV completed the turnaround when Ismael Saibari finished off a lightning-fast counterattack to make it 2–1.
The second half was all PSV. Former Parma winger Dennis Man stole the show, first pouncing on a Mario Junior cross to score the third, then curling in a beautiful strike from the edge of the box to make it 4–1. Things got even worse for Napoli when striker Lorenzo Lucca was sent off for dissent, leaving his team down to ten men.
In the closing minutes, substitutes Pepi and Driouech added to the humiliation, scoring one apiece and combining for an assist each. McTominay’s late second goal only slightly softened the scoreline for Napoli, who have now lost four of their last seven matches across all competitions.
With the defense in shambles and Kevin De Bruyne invisible in midfield, Conte’s side looks unrecognizable from last season’s Scudetto-winning unit — and in desperate need of answers before their European hopes slip away completely.
