A goalless draw in Lecce sums up a dull Saturday afternoon — with Stulic going close and Laurienté wasting Sassuolo’s best chance, the match at Via del Mare ends without excitement or goals.
Lecce and Sassuolo played out a lifeless 0–0 draw in Saturday’s early Serie A fixture, a game that will hardly live long in the memory. At the Stadio Via del Mare, Eusebio Di Francesco’s Lecce showed slightly more intent but once again lacked the quality and precision in the final third.
Sassuolo, under Fabio Grosso, were well-organized and compact but equally uninspired going forward. The few moments that stirred the crowd came from a left-footed strike by Nikola Stulic that went inches wide in the first half and a counterattack wasted by Armand Laurienté after the break.
Neither side ever really threatened to break the deadlock, and as the minutes ticked away, both seemed content to settle for a point — one that could prove useful in the fight for survival later in the season.
For Lecce, though, the home struggles continue: they’ve now won just one of their last 14 games at the Via del Mare. Sassuolo, meanwhile, will be satisfied with the draw, if only because the alternative would have been undeserved.
