Historic opening win for Como in Serie A: Douvikas breaks the deadlock before Nico Paz seals it with a stunning free kick. Lazio flat and never in the game.
Cesc Fabregas’ Como couldn’t have asked for a better Serie A debut. At the “Sinigaglia,” the newly promoted side stunned Lazio with a convincing 2-0 victory, driven by a magical performance from Nico Paz. The Argentine playmaker first produced a visionary assist for Douvikas to open the scoring, then took center stage with a sensational free kick into the top corner that sent the home crowd into raptures.
Maurizio Sarri’s Lazio, looking sluggish and short on ideas, offered little in response. Their only real spark came with Castellanos’ disallowed goal for the narrowest of offside calls — a historic moment, as it marked the first time a Serie A referee publicly explained a VAR decision to the stadium.
In the closing stages, Como nearly added a third when Vojvoda struck the crossbar. Standing ovations for Fabregas and his players, while Sarri is left with plenty of work to do to get Lazio back on track.
