Curaçao made history at the FIFA World Cup 2026, collecting the first point ever in the nation’s World Cup history after holding Ecuador to a dramatic 0-0 draw in Kansas City.
The heroes of the night wore blue, and above all stood goalkeeper Eloy Room. The veteran shot-stopper delivered a remarkable performance, producing 15 saves and repeatedly denying Ecuador’s attackers in what quickly became one of the most memorable individual displays of the tournament so far.
For Ecuador, the result feels more like a defeat than a draw. After losing their opening match, Sebastián Beccacece’s side desperately needed three points to stay in control of their destiny. Instead, they were wasteful in front of goal and often lacked precision in the final third despite creating numerous opportunities.
Captain Enner Valencia and Gonzalo Plata both came close to breaking the deadlock, while Moisés Caicedo tried to dictate the tempo from midfield. Yet every Ecuadorian attempt was met by Room, who seemed unbeatable throughout the 90 minutes.

Group E now sees Germany comfortably on top with six points, followed by Côte d’Ivoire on three. Ecuador and Curaçao both move to one point and will head into the final matchday with qualification still mathematically possible.
Curaçao will face Côte d’Ivoire on June 25, while Ecuador must defeat Germany and hope results elsewhere go their way to reach the Round of 32.
