Massimiliano Allegri struck a cautious tone while discussing the Serie A title race, acknowledging that FC Internazionale Milano remain the strongest team in the league despite AC Milan’s recent derby victory.
Speaking in his pre-match press conference ahead of the game against SS Lazio, the Milan coach insisted his team must focus primarily on its own results rather than the standings.
“We Must Focus on Ourselves”
Allegri emphasized that Milan’s approach must remain grounded despite the excitement following the derby win.
“After the derby everyone was happy for the three points,” Allegri said. “But the team came back to training calm and focused.”
With Milan currently on 60 points, Allegri set the next target.
“We reached 60 points, now the next objective is to reach 70.”
Inter Still the Team to Beat
Despite the momentum, Allegri made it clear who he believes remains the strongest side in Serie A.
“Inter have a seven-point advantage and they have shown they are the best,” he said.
For that reason, Milan’s priority is to continue winning rather than obsessing over the title race.
“We have to run our own race. To finish in the top four we still need to win at least five more matches.”

Allegri was also realistic when asked whether Milan can still overturn the gap at the top of the table.
“There is only one way to catch Inter,” he explained. “They must lose points and we must win our matches.”
“The results will tell us if we were good enough and whether they dropped points.”

Looking ahead to the upcoming match, Allegri expects a difficult challenge.
“Lazio are hard to face,” he said. “They close spaces well and are very dangerous in transition because they have technical players who are strong in open spaces.”
