Nico Paz’s brilliant opener wasn’t enough as Ekuban strikes deep into added time to snatch a draw for Genoa at the Sinigaglia.
Como looked set to claim all three points at the Stadio Sinigaglia, but a late red card and a last-gasp goal from Caleb Ekuban saw Genoa escape with a dramatic 1-1 draw.
The home side took the lead early in the first half thanks to a moment of brilliance from Nico Paz. In the 13th minute, the Argentine midfielder received a pass from Morata, turned sharply, and unleashed a powerful left-footed strike that flew past Leali to make it 1-0.
Como nearly doubled their lead at the half-hour mark. Kuhn burst down the right flank and went one-on-one with Leali, but the Genoa goalkeeper produced a crucial save with his foot. The rebound fell to Morata, who incredibly fired wide with the goal at his mercy — a miss that would prove costly later on.
Genoa’s first real chance came in the 34th minute when Masini’s effort was cleared off the line by Valle. The visitors made attacking changes in the second half, introducing Messias and later Ekuban in search of an equalizer, but Como remained in control and even went close through Vojvoda in the 67th minute.
The turning point came in the 89th minute when Jacobo Ramon was sent off for a tactical foul, leaving Como down to ten men. Genoa seized the momentum, and in the 92nd minute Norton-Cuffy drove forward on the right and attempted a chip over Butez. Sergi Roberto’s desperate clearance hit the post, and the ball fell perfectly to Ekuban, who slotted home to level the score at 1-1.
Como were left to rue missed opportunities, while Genoa celebrated their resilience and late fightback to earn a point on the road.
