From defensive reinforcements to midfield exits, Inter’s front office is already planning significant roster changes ahead of the 2026-27 season.
Fresh off another trophy-winning campaign, FC Internazionale Milano is wasting no time preparing for what could become one of the club’s busiest transfer windows in recent years.
New head coach Cristian Chivu has already begun holding strategic meetings with club executives, including president Giuseppe Marotta, sporting director Piero Ausilio, and vice president Javier Zanetti, to define the structure of Inter’s next era.
And the early indications point toward significant changes across multiple areas of the squad.
Defense and midfield are expected to undergo the biggest transformations, with several veteran players nearing the end of their cycles at San Siro.
In defense, Inter is preparing for the departures of Francesco Acerbi and Matteo Darmian, while the future of Stefan de Vrij remains unresolved.
The Dutch center back could still receive a one-year extension offer, but discussions are ongoing.
At least two new defenders are expected to arrive this summer.
Inter’s primary targets are reportedly Oumar Solet of Udinese Calcio and Tarik Muharemovic from US Sassuolo Calcio.
Both profiles appeal to Inter for different reasons: Solet offers physicality and versatility in a back three, while Muharemovic is viewed as a naturally left-sided central defender capable of improving buildup play.
The club is also evaluating the futures of Yann Bisseck and Carlos Augusto.
Bisseck recently changed agents, fueling speculation about possible offers from abroad, while Carlos Augusto is believed to want a larger role after serving primarily as a utility player under both Simone Inzaghi and Chivu.
Midfield could see equally dramatic movement.
Davide Frattesi is now expected to leave Inter this summer, with club sources reportedly considering his departure inevitable.
The Italian midfielder struggled for consistent playing time this season, making only three league starts and failing to score in Serie A after previously delivering several decisive moments in European competition.
Inter is believed to value Frattesi at around €25 million, and interest from both Italian and foreign clubs is expected.
Meanwhile, the Nerazzurri are aggressively searching for reinforcements in central midfield.
The dream target remains Manu Koné of AS Roma, a player Inter already pursued last summer.
Club officials view Koné as the type of physically dominant midfielder currently missing from the squad and a potential complement to Hakan Çalhanoğlu.
Inter also continues to monitor Curtis Jones from Liverpool FC, appreciating his versatility and tactical flexibility.
The future of Henrikh Mkhitaryan is another major question mark.
The veteran midfielder’s contract expires in June, and while retirement is currently viewed as the most likely scenario, Inter has not fully closed the door on a renewal.
Since arriving on a free transfer in 2022, Mkhitaryan has helped the club win six trophies and become one of the dressing room’s most respected leaders.
On the wings, Inter remains interested in Marco Palestra, but negotiating with Atalanta BC is expected to be difficult.
To create room financially and tactically, the club may consider selling Luis Henrique, who has reportedly failed to fully convince since his arrival last summer.
Goalkeeper is another area under review.
Josep Martínez is currently favored to become Inter’s starting goalkeeper next season, but the club still plans to sign another keeper regardless of his role.
The previously discussed pursuit of Guglielmo Vicario from Tottenham Hotspur FC now appears unlikely.
Inter’s front office also continues monitoring younger assets tied to the club’s future, including Aleksandar Stanković — son of former Nerazzurri star Dejan Stanković — and midfielder Yanis Massolin.
For now, though, the direction is clear.
After another successful cycle, Inter is preparing to refresh the squad rather than simply preserve it — with Chivu already deeply involved in shaping what comes next.
