Gasperini Praises Roma’s Mentality After Parma Win: “This Group Showed Belonging” (VIDEO)

Roma coach responds to controversy, discusses Dybala’s future and looks ahead to the derby

Gian Piero Gasperini praised Roma’s character and resilience after their dramatic victory over Parma Calcio 1913, insisting his side fully deserved the win despite the controversy surrounding the officiating.

Speaking after the match, the Roma coach addressed comments from Parma manager Carlos Cuesta, who had accused the refereeing of being one-sided.

“There are images, all of Italy will see them. Cuesta is right—they all seem very obvious to me,” Gasperini replied with irony.
“I understand the disappointment of losing in stoppage time. They played with extraordinary spirit, and that’s good for the league.”

Despite acknowledging Parma’s strong performance, Gasperini defended Roma’s victory by pointing to the balance of chances created throughout the match.

“Winning this game is a great source of satisfaction for us. We played a very good first half and created many chances. Suzuki was extraordinary. The numbers speak for themselves, and so do the incidents. It would have been cruel for us to lose this match.”

“Dybala said ‘could’”

The Roma coach was also asked about comments from Paulo Dybala, who suggested the upcoming derby could be his final appearance for the club.

Gasperini avoided speculation but made clear he hopes to keep the Argentine star.

“He said something very precise—he said ‘could.’ That’s conditional,” Gasperini explained.
“It’s obviously something that concerns both the club and the player. I’d be happy to keep him available.”

The coach also praised Dybala’s physical condition after his recent injury problems.

“Dybala doesn’t only have technique—he also has special physical qualities. At the end of the game he was still fresh, his level doesn’t drop. But this is something that will be discussed after the season.”

“This victory proves the mentality of the group”

Looking ahead to the derby, Gasperini described the win as a key moment for Roma’s confidence and identity.

“This is a fundamental victory because it certifies the mentality and sense of belonging of this group,” he said.
“Many times this season our substitutions haven’t changed games, but today they did. It’s proof of a squad that reacted after setbacks.”

The Roma manager emphasized how proud he was of the team’s attitude, regardless of the standings.

“I’m three times happier, regardless of the result. We know this victory alone is not enough—we still have to do everything possible without regrets.”

“I saw quality football”

Asked about defensive mistakes and whether he noticed worrying signs in the performance, Gasperini rejected the negativity surrounding the team.

“You talk about negative things—I could list four times as many positive ones,” he answered.
“Mistakes always happen, but I saw quality football.”

He also praised Parma’s energy and organization, acknowledging the challenge they posed.

“Parma scored three goals and created four or five dangerous situations. They’ve had a very solid season. After they equalized, the match became difficult.”

Still, Gasperini maintained Roma were the better side overall.

“I understand their anger after the defeat, but I believe Roma deserved to win.”

“You always have to wait until the end”

Finally, Gasperini reflected on the emotions of the dramatic closing stages.

“It’s difficult to describe,” he admitted. “At that moment, a draw only avoided defeat. But I kept seeing the chances we created and Suzuki’s saves. You always have to wait until the end—great credit to these players.”

With momentum restored and the derby approaching, Roma remain firmly in the race for a Champions League place—and Gasperini’s side are showing no signs of giving up.
