Sassuolo 2-1 Como: Volpato and Nzola Strike Late as Neroverdi Hold Off Como Fightback

Sassuolo deliver a decisive one-two before halftime, then rely on Turati’s heroics to secure three crucial points against a spirited Como side led by Nico Paz.

Sassuolo edged Como 2-1 at the Mapei Stadium in a tightly contested Serie A Matchday 33 clash, with all the key moments packed into a dramatic end to the first half. Goals from Cristian Volpato and M’Bala Nzola gave the hosts a cushion before Nico Paz pulled one back, but it wasn’t enough to prevent Como’s second straight defeat.

The result strengthens Sassuolo’s position in the standings, while Como—managed by Cesc Fàbregas—now faces mounting pressure in the race for a top-four finish.

Late First-Half Blitz Decides the Game

For much of the opening period, neither side managed to impose themselves. That changed abruptly in the 42nd minute when Volpato broke the deadlock with a sublime chipped finish, delicately lifting the ball over goalkeeper Jean Butez after a perfectly weighted assist from Nzola.

Just two minutes later, Sassuolo struck again. This time Armand Laurienté turned provider, setting up Nzola, who made no mistake in front of goal to double the lead and score his first for the club.

Como looked stunned—but only briefly. Deep into stoppage time, Nico Paz reignited the contest, twisting his body to meet a cross from Ivan Smolčić and sending a looping header past Stefano Turati, who could have done better.

Turati Redeems Himself, Sassuolo Hold Firm

The second half saw Como push aggressively for an equalizer, committing numbers forward with attacking options like Álvaro Morata and Anastasios Douvikas joining Nico Paz in the final third.

Paz came closest to leveling the score midway through the half with a moment of brilliance, but Turati produced a stunning save on the line, denying the Argentine playmaker and reacting quickly to prevent a rebound from Morata.

Despite sustained pressure, Como struggled to create clear-cut chances. Sassuolo, organized and disciplined, absorbed the attacks and managed the game effectively to secure all three points.
