Fiorentina 2-1 Raków: Late Penalty Gives Viola Narrow Advantage

Ndour’s spectacular equalizer and Gudmundsson’s stoppage-time penalty rescue Fiorentina in a tense Conference League first leg.

ACF Fiorentina secured a dramatic 2-1 victory over Raków Częstochowa in the first leg of their Round of 16 clash in the UEFA Europa Conference League.

Despite a largely uneventful match at the Stadio Artemio Franchi, Fiorentina found a late winner in stoppage time, giving them a slim advantage ahead of the return leg in Poland.

A Slow Start

The match struggled to find rhythm during the opening hour.

Both sides pressed aggressively but created few genuine scoring opportunities. Fiorentina saw more of the ball, yet Raków’s compact defensive shape prevented clear chances.

Goalkeepers Oliver Christensen and Vladyslav Zych were rarely called into action during a first half defined more by caution than creativity.

Sudden Burst of Goals

After nearly an hour of quiet football, the match suddenly came alive.

In the 60th minute, Raków stunned the home crowd when Brunes — cousin of Manchester City star Erling Haaland — finished clinically after capitalizing on defensive hesitation from Pietro Comuzzo.

The lead lasted barely two minutes.

Fiorentina responded immediately thanks to a moment of brilliance from Cher Ndour. The midfielder produced a stunning outside-of-the-foot strike that flew into the top corner, leveling the score at 1-1.

Drama in Stoppage Time

Following the brief burst of excitement, the match returned to a cautious rhythm.

Fiorentina came closest through Roberto Piccoli, who struck the crossbar late in the game, but the decisive moment arrived deep into stoppage time.

After a lengthy VAR review, the referee awarded Fiorentina a penalty for a handball by Racovitan inside the box. Albert Gudmundsson stepped up and calmly converted in the 93rd minute.

The late goal gives Fiorentina a valuable advantage heading into the second leg.
