Atalanta face Bayern in a brutal side of the draw that also features Real Madrid–Man City and PSG–Chelsea
The path to European glory is officially mapped. After the draw in Nyon, the 2026 UEFA Champions League bracket is locked in from the Round of 16 all the way to the final at Budapest’s Puskás Aréna on May 30.
For Italy, only Atalanta remain — and their reward is a heavyweight clash with Bayern Munich, one of the tournament favorites.
Round of 16 Matchups
“Silver” Side (The Heavyweight Half)
- Paris Saint-Germain vs. Chelsea
- Galatasaray vs. Liverpool
- Real Madrid vs. Manchester City
- Atalanta vs. Bayern Munich
This is clearly the tougher side of the bracket. Real Madrid–Manchester City headlines the round, while PSG–Chelsea offers another blockbuster showdown. Atalanta will need to navigate Bayern and then likely face another European giant to reach the semifinal.
“Blue” Side (More Open Path)
- Newcastle United vs. FC Barcelona
- Atlético Madrid vs. Tottenham Hotspur
- Bodø/Glimt vs. Sporting CP
- Bayer Leverkusen vs. Arsenal
On paper, this side looks slightly more balanced. Arsenal, in particular, may feel they’ve landed on the more favorable route, potentially avoiding the tournament’s heaviest hitters until the final.
Key Dates
- Round of 16: March 10–11 (first legs), March 17–18 (second legs)
- Quarterfinals: April 7–8 and April 14–15
- Semifinals: April 28–29 and May 5–6
- Final: May 30, 2026 – Puskás Aréna, Budapest (6:00 PM local time)
With Inter eliminated and only Atalanta flying the Italian flag, the spotlight now turns to whether La Dea can survive the gauntlet on the competition’s most brutal side of the bracket. One thing is certain: the road to Budapest will run through giants.
