Conte Praises Napoli’s Mentality After Roma Draw: “We’re Used to Injuries, We Keep Going” (VIDEO)

Napoli fight back twice in a 2–2 thriller as Conte highlights character, fans’ support, and the impact of January signings Alisson and Giovane

There was no frustration in Antonio Conte’s voice after Napoli were held to a 2–2 draw by Roma at the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium. Instead, the Napoli head coach focused on resilience, growth, and a squad that continues to push beyond its limits.

Speaking to DAZN after the match, Conte praised both his players and the fans. “First of all, the supporters deserve thanks,” he said. “It’s not a given that they recognize the work we’re doing. The fact they see us fighting and honoring the shirt says everything about these players.”

“We Deserved More”

Napoli twice came from behind against Roma in a match Conte described as intense and physical. “Coming back twice against Roma is never easy,” he explained. “On points, I think we deserved more. It was a high-tempo game, very ‘English’ in style. We have to keep going like this.”

Conte framed the draw as part of a longer journey rather than a missed opportunity. “The difficulties this season have been many,” he said. “But we’re building our future over the next 13 matches. Then we’ll see which European competition we qualify for. Right now, we’re overcoming obstacles.”

Injuries? “I Won’t Talk About Them Anymore”

Asked again about Napoli’s ongoing injury issues, Conte shut the topic down quickly. “Enough — I’m not talking about injuries anymore. We’re used to it,” he said bluntly. “One player more or less doesn’t change anything. We’ll always find a solution.”

That philosophy also applied to defender Amir Rrahmani, whose condition remains uncertain. “He’s important for us, of course,” Conte said. “But if he’s not available, we adapt.”

Alisson and Giovane: Humble and Hungry

The equalizer that sealed the 2–2 draw was scored by Alisson, one of Napoli’s low-cost January arrivals. Conte took the opportunity to highlight both Alisson and Giovane, stressing their attitude as much as their talent.

“They arrived in January when we couldn’t really spend in the market — essentially free signings,” Conte explained. “They’ve only been with us for two weeks, so they still need to learn our movements and game situations.”

Conte offered a clear technical distinction between the two: “Alisson is stronger in one-on-one situations. Giovane is more of a pure striker, though we also use him as a attacking midfielder. They’ve changed their lives very recently, but they’re both good guys, humble, and eager to help the team.”

A Team Still Growing

For Conte, the Roma draw was less about dropped points and more about confirmation. Napoli may be battered by injuries and forced to improvise, but the mentality is intact.

“We’re not stopping,” Conte said. “This group keeps fighting, and that’s the most important thing.”
